HALE CENTRE THEATRE will hold auditions Saturday, Nov. 16, 9 a.m.-noon, for Roger Miller's "Big River," directed by Jim Christian and choreographed by Marilyn May Montgomery.
There are roles for men and women, 18 and older. (No auditioners under 18 will be seen at the open audition.) Come prepared with 16 bars of a song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided. Dance auditions and readings will be held at the callbacks (by invitation only). Bring a current photograph and resume.
All auditions are by appointment only. Call 984-9000, beginning Monday, to schedule a time slot. Performances are Feb. 1-March 10. All cast members will be paid. Character descriptions are available at the box office, 3333 S. Decker Lake Drive, West Valley City.
THE SCERA CENTER, 745 S. State, Orem, has scheduled tryouts for two of its upcoming productions "Peter Pan" on Nov. 14-16, and "Smokey Joe's Cafe," Nov. 21-22.
"Peter Pan" is directed by Robert and Laurel Barham. Vocal auditions will be held in Room B1, from 6-7 p.m., on Nov. 14, for boys, 5-10 years old, for the role of Michael. Men and women, 14 and older, may audition 7-9 p.m. on Nov. 14 and 15. Come prepared with 16 measures of an upbeat song. An accompanist will be provided. Dance auditions will be at 9 a.m. on Nov. 16.
All roles are open. Both men and women will be considered for the title role. Experience with tumbling and gymnastics is helpful. Strong dancers are needed for the roles of Tiger Lily and other Indians. Those interested only in a dancing role, which requires no singing, may attend the dance auditions; come dressed to move. Play dates are Feb. 27-March 17.
"Smokey Joe's Cafe," a 1950s song-and-dance revue, is directed and choreographed by Sunny Claitor. Vocal auditions are 7-10 p.m., Nov. 21-22, in Room B1. Dance-only auditions will be Saturday, Nov. 23, from noon-1 p.m. There are roles for five men and three women, plus an eight-member dance ensemble. Vocal auditioners, 18 and older, will be asked to sing 16 measures of a Broadway-style song. Those attending dance auditions should come dressed for movement. Play dates are Feb. 3-17.

DRAPER HISTORIC THEATRE is holding auditions on Nov. 16, from 1 to 4 p.m., for "Footloose: The Musical."
Teenagers are encouraged to bring their parents. There will be only two or three roles for children under 14. Come prepared to sing an up-tempo song of your own choice, learn and perform a short but athletic dance routine and possibly read from the script. A piano and CD/cassette player will be provided. An accompanist will also be present.
There will only be five rehearsals before Christmas. Cast members will be expected to learn their music and lines before major rehearsals begin in January. Play dates are Feb. 20-March 22.
