A man who has 13 arrests or convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol has been charged with DUI in Salt Lake City.

Christopher Dee Duran, 42, was arrested Sept. 4 in Sugarhouse Park after officers found him sitting in his car with keys in the ignition, according to documents filed in 3rd District Court Friday. When he stepped out of the car, a partially empty 32-ounce bottle of beer fell out. He failed field sobriety tests, his speech was slurred and a blood sample later proved that he was drunk, court documents said.

The Sept. 4 arrest was reported to have happened in a different Salt Lake County city in a previous Deseret News story.

Duran is being held in Salt Lake County Jail on a DUI charge from a Sept. 12 arrest in South Jordan. He has a history of DUI convictions dating to 1988, and has been convicted in multiple jurisdictions, including Salt Lake County, Murray, Beaver, Bountiful and Sandy.

Like the South Jordan charge, Duran's prior convictions enhances the DUI charge to a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison. He has been charged with driving on a denied, suspended or revoked license and driving with an open container, both class C misdemeanors.
