An earthquake rattled parts of the Southern California desert Friday and was felt as far south as San Diego, but police had no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The 5:26 p.m. earthquake registered 4.1 on the Richter scale and was centered 23 miles southeast of Palm Springs, near the town of Borrego Springs, said Steve Bryant of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

"It was just like a rolling feeling. It wasn't that strong," said Indio police dispatcher Dan Montgomery.
