LAS VEGAS The Salt Lake Stingers were reminiscent of an old Top 40 radio station of the 1960's as the hits just kept on coming in a 10-4 win over the Las Vegas 51s Thursday night.
The Stingers banged out a season high 25 hits as everyone in the starting lineup had at least one hit and Salt Lake had at least one hit in every inning.
Rick Short continued to swing a hot bat with a five-hit performance and two runs batted in. Short has hit safely in 29 of his last 31 games. Chone Figgins and Keith Johnson added four hits apiece, and Jamie Burke had a three-hit night.
Trent Durrington put Salt Lake ahead to stay with a two-run double in the second inning off Las Vegas starter Dennis Springer (3-5). This was his first game back after serving a three game suspension for his part in last week's fight with Iowa. Larry Barnes hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to give Salt Lake a three-run lead after Bubba Crosby's two-run single brought the 51s within one run in the bottom of the fifth.
Matt Hensley (1-1) was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst by the Stingers as he picked up his first career win at the triple-A level. He allowed all four Las Vegas runs on six hits in six innings.
BEE LINES: Robb Quinlan had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, three shy of the team record. The Stingers took three of four from Las Vegas and are 6-2 on the road trip. Mickey Callaway (7-0) will make his first start since May 23 in Tucson Friday night (8 on AM1230). He had been on the disabled list with a sore back.
