After months of reconstruction, the new surface will soon be completed on State Street in Provo. Businessmen will celebrate with a public opening ceremony at 9 a.m. July 1 at the Connco Plaza, 1700 N. State.
Provo Mayor Joseph Jenkins and Wayne Winters, Utah Transportation Commission vice chairman, will be featured speakers at the road opening ceremony. Merchants on the Provo/Orem hill will provide a hot air balloon and a drawing for a $2,000 gift certificate along with other special promotions. The new four-lane road will make access to businesses on State Street easier. The concrete surface will last an estimated 40-50 years and should require little or no maintenance.
