Contest rules: From the story summaries listed below, rank from 1 through 10 the stories you believe were the biggest of the year in Utah, with 1 being the best. Mark only 10.
All entries must be received at the Deseret News office by noon Monday, Dec. 24.
Only one entry per person, please. Employees of the Deseret News, Newspaper Agency Corp. and other news media are not eligible to enter.Prizes: The entry that most closely matches the Top 10 list as determined by editors will win the grand prize of $100 in gift certificates from ZCMI Center and a copy of "Through Our Eyes," a book that chronicles 150 years of history as seen through the eyes of Deseret News writers and editors. Three second-place winners will receive $50 each in gift certificates plus a copy of "Through Our Eyes." Ten runners-up will receive a copy of the same book. Any ties will be broken by a drawing. The Top 10 news stories and contest winners will be announced in the Deseret News on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001.

____2000 Census: Utah loses its bid to increase the state's population count and get a fourth congressional seat. The census reveals that Hispanics are Utah's largest minority group.
____Layoffs: Geneva Steel, Kennecott, Novell and other businesses cut jobs as the economy slumps.
____Polygamy: Tom Green is convicted of bigamy and criminal nonsupport and begins serving his five-year prison sentence.
____Spanish Fork Ranch: Families are relocated from Spanish Fork Ranch after garbage starts surfacing in their yards and methane levels increase.
____TRAX: The 2.5-mile TRAX extension from downtown Salt Lake City to the University of Utah begins running at year's end.
____Jazz: The Utah Jazz exit the NBA playoffs in the first round, then start 2001-2002 season badly.
____Alcohol: The Utah Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission approves more relaxed rules on the advertising of distilled spirits, wine and beer.
____Provo Angels: Provo gets its first minor league baseball team, the Angels.
____Legacy Highway: Construction begins, then is stopped, on the first 14-mile stretch of the controversial Legacy Highway.
