SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police believe a couple found dead in their home over the weekend were victims of a murder-suicide.
But how the woman died was still unknown on Monday.
About 12:20 a.m. Sunday, the bodies of Nancy May, 55, and Mark May, 64, were found inside their Sugar House home at 1641 E. Wasatch Circle.
An adult daughter found her parents, according to police. Mark May was found hanging, said Salt Lake police detective Brandon Shearer. But there was no obvious cause of death for Nancy May, he said. Her body was taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine her cause of death.
Based on undisclosed evidence collected at the scene, however, Shearer said investigators believe Mark May killed his wife before killing himself. Police did not disclose a possible motive on Monday, or whether the Mays had any history of domestic violence or health-related issues.
According to their Facebook page, the Mays had been married since 1986. Based on their posts, the two enjoyed biking and being in the outdoors.
