SALT LAKE CITY — A motorcyclist killed in a collision early Tuesday has been identified as Johnathan Burgess, 32, of Sandy.
Salt Lake police released the crash victim's name Tuesday afternoon on Twitter.
About 6:45 a.m., an SUV collided with Burgess' motorcycle in the intersection of 1700 South and 900 West, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer.
A female passenger on the motorcycle was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. The woman driving the SUV was not injured, Shearer said.
Police believe one of the vehicles may have run a red light, although it was unclear which one did not stop.
The accident blocked the intersection for hours, snarling traffic for rush-hour commuters.
Calls to Salt Lake police seeking to determine the status of their investigation went unanswered Tuesday evening.
