Real Salt Lake was back home to take on Minnesota United FC Saturday evening. By half, one thing was clear: RSL could get a lot of shots against its opponent. With 11 shots by halftime, and 29 during the entire match, Real had look after look to score, but it wasn't until the 85th minute, after Yura Movsisyan entered the match as a substitute, that RSL was able to score. In the 85th minute, a corner, delivered to Justen Glad, was headed at the Minnesota goalkeeper, Bobby Shuttleworth. The goalkeeper could not handle the attack, and as it trickled off his glove, Movsisyan was in the right place at the right time to deliver the match's only goal. This led to a 1-0 victory for the home side and the team's first win in the month of June.
Nick Rimando (6) — RSL's goalkeeper did not see much action on this night. With only one save, while holding opponents without a goal, Rimando anchored a solid performance.
Tony Beltran (6.5) — This was the best Beltran looked since he came back from injury. Along with his great break-ups on the defensive side, he won many of the 50/50 balls that came his way.
Justen Glad (6.5) — It was great to see Glad back in action at center-back. Along with his stabilizing defense, he was aggressive in set pieces, and in the 85th minute, his header created the goal for Movsisyan.
Aaron Maund (6) —- Since the defense has looked quite discombobulated the last three matches, Saturday night's victory was a boost, especially for the back line. Maund kept the offensive side of Minnesota at bay and didn't let its potent offensive get behind him.
Danilo Acosta (6) — In the first half, RSL kept Acosta back to solidify its defense, but with a scoreless first half, RSL brought him forward to create more shots for the home side. His versatility could prove potent as the season progresses.
Kyle Beckerman (6) — The team captain got his money's worth in this match. With opportunities from distance, chances to run forward and a yellow card, Beckerman was active to say the least. His midfield play kept Minnesota from quick attacking counters.
Jefferson (6.5) — No doubt, Savarino is a fun player to watch. He is not afraid to take a rip, accounting for seven shots for Real. Still, the youngster had opportunities to deliver the ball to open teammates, but settled for selfish attempts.
Luke Mulholland (6.5) — Right from the start, Mulholland brought early energy with physicality to the midfield. His shot in the 77th minute kept the Minnesota side sweating with a barrage of goal attempts from the Crimson and Cobalt.
Brooks Lennon (6.5) — The man continues to create for this struggling Real team. In the second half, Lennon pushed the ball up field at will, and ran well without the ball to set up passes in his direction.
Joao Plata (6) — His touch was crisp until the 73rd minute when his heavy touch cost him and the team a goal. Also, with miscommunication in the 53rd between himself and JSavarino, Plata was not able to garner a goal off of his six shot attempts.
Luis Silva (6.5) — Starting Silva as the target striker was an interesting call by coach Mike Petke, but Silva did not shy away from the moment. His combination play of strikes and passes gave RSL adaptability on the evening.
Yura Movsisyan (7) — As Movsisyan subbed into the match for Silva in the 70th minute, Real was desperate for a goal, after so many shot attempts that came up empty. His goal in the 85th minute was the difference. Even Petke said post ame that during the week, he hoped Movsisyan would step up, telling him, " there's nothing more that I would want than for you to come off the bench and score." The coach got his wish.
Sebastian Saucedo (6) — Sebastian Saucedo subbed in for Acosta in the 79th minute. Even though he didn't attempt a shot in his short stint on the field, his passing was accurate, and his presence continued to mesh well with the attacking flow of RSL.
Chris Wingert (N/A) — In the 87th minute, Wingert came into the match for Plata.
