Your favorite Star Wars Jedi is about to get his own comic series.
Mace Windu, the Jedi master with a purple light saber famously portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson in the Star Wars films, will have his comic book debut in “Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic — Mace Windu.”
The new comic series will run for five issues and will be released in August, according to ComicBook.com.
Few details are known about the story, except that it will chronicle Windu’s early battles in the Clone Wars, which ultimately led to the formation of the Galactic Empire.
Here’s the description of the series, which was first reported by StarWars.com:
“For over a thousand generations, the Jedi have been the peacekeepers of the galaxy but now, at the dawn of the Clone Wars, they find themselves in a new role: generals in the Army of the Republic. As Mace Windu, one of the Jedi’s greatest warriors, leads a small unit of Jedi into battle shortly after the war begins, the Jedi must make peace with their new role, or be lost to the violence around them!”
In “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith,” Windu died after he was struck down by Darth Sidious, also known as Emperor Palpatine, when Windu confronted the politician over his knowledge of the dark side.
Both Jackson and Star Wars creator George Lucas said they believe Windu, despite falling to his death out of a window in “Sith,” is still alive, and could make appearances later on in the Star Wars story, SlashFilm reported.
"George is like, 'I'm okay with that. You can be alive,'" Jackson told reporters, according to SlashFilm. But, as he pointed out, "George doesn’t have anything to do with it anymore."
