“Their goaltender made some great saves,” said head coach and General Manager Tim Branham. “We probably had three or four empty nets that we did capitalize on. You have to give them props. On the flip side, we need to bear down and put those in the net.”
Entering the third period with a 4-0 deficit, the Grizzlies cut the margin to two goals with 10:15 left in the third period with two goals in 1:52 scored by Austen Brassard (eight) and Ralph Cuddemi (27).
“I didn't think we played a bad game today to be honest,” said Branham. “We missed a penalty shot (late in second period). They scored on their breakaway. They just did a better job of putting the puck in the back of our net than we did.”
Brassard scored on the power play on a rush up ice from Cam Reid and Colin Martin as the Grizzlies cashed in on the power play 7:53 into the third.
Cuddemi then walked into the circle and blasted a puck home from Tim Daly.
The Eagles built the 4-0 lead with two goals in the first and two in the second.
Grizzlies goaltender Ryan Faragher stopped 23-of-27 shots.
“This one kind of got away from us a little bit,” said Branham. “We are going to refocus and regroup here and come back tomorrow. These are some huge games, huge points.”
