This week, Salt Lake City is home to Comic Con FanX at the Salt Palace Convention Center on March 17-18.

Special guests include Stan Lee, former president and chairman of Marvel Comics; John Rhys-Davies of "The Lord of The Rings"; and songwriter "Weird Al" Yankovic.

Comic Con events give participants a chance to dress up as their favorite characters, meet new people and do something they enjoy.

"Some of my closest friends are people I've met through the cosplay world," KayLynn Wolfe, a teacher from Clearfield who met her husband as a result of Comic Con, told the Deseret News. "Now we go and do events and we have dinner together, and I've created some really lasting friendships. … And then, of course, your social circle expands to the thousands and thousands of people who go to Comic Con."

Comic Con first came to Salt Lake City in September 2013 and had over 72,000 people in attendance. Since then, Comic Con has only grown, hosting events twice a year, breaking UTA ridership records, and offering Utahns a chance to mingle with their favorite celebrities or heroes, according to the event's official website.

In years past, astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Mark Hamill of "Star Wars" have spoken at Comic Con in Salt Lake. U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch has also attended the event.
