1A MVP

Danielle Brinkerhoff, Bryce Valley

Sr., Guard

2016-2017 statistics

10.1 points per game

7.6 rebounds per game

4.1 assists per game

2.2 steals per game

Season high

27 points vs. Wayne on Dec. 14

Opposing coach scouting report

“Very talented and smart point guard for Bryce Valley. She was always our focus whenever we played them. She is very unselfish with the basketball and is able to get all of her teammates involved. She has a great crossover dribble to her left hand which was a nightmare for her opponents.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A First Team

2015 — 1A Third Team

2014 — 1A Third Team

1A First Team

Atlanta Black, Monticello

Sr., Guard

2016-2017 statistics

18.7 points per game

5.3 rebounds per game

4.2 steals per game

Season high

35 points at Whitehorse on Feb. 3

Opposing coach scouting report

“Atlanta is such an amazing athlete. She's difficult to stop offensively because she can shoot the long range jumper and the three well but also has great ball handling skills to go with a really quick first step, then she finishes strong underneath. We didn't want to foul her because if she got to the line she was gonna put them in. She's also not a selfish player and would find open teammates with ease. She's difficult to box out because she can jump extremely well. Defensively she works hard and plays super aggressively with quick hands and feet. She's been fun to watch, but I know we are glad we don't have to face her next year.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A First Team

2015 — 1A Third Team

Emily Barnes, Milford

Sr., Center

2016-2017 statistics

19.5 points per game

8.2 rebounds per game

4.3 steals per game

Season high

34 points at Water Canyon on Dec. 9

Opposing coach scouting report

“Emily Barnes is the most athletic post player I have coached against. Her length and vertical make her next to impossible to keep off the offensive glass. Her transition game and improved FT shooting make her a force in the paint and in transition.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A Second Team

2015 — 1A Honorable Mention

Gracie Rhoades, Tabiona

1A First Team

Jr., Center

2016-2017 statistics

14.3 points per game

Season high

27 points vs. Altamont on Jan. 12

Opposing coach scouting report

“Gracie is a dominant force down low. She is physical and seals well. Goes hard to the basket. Gracie goes to the glass hard and keeps the ball high to put it back in.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A Honorable Mention

Courtney Jackson, Wayne

Sr., Guard

2016-2017 statistics

19.8 points per game

Season high

32 points vs. Parowan on Feb. 8

Opposing coach scouting report

“Very athletic and active. Courtney was always moving without the ball. When the ball touched her hands good things happened for her team. Courtney is able to score off the dribble which made her a very tough defensive assignment.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A Second Team

Samantha Chynoweth, Bryce Valley

Sr., Forward

2016-2017 statistics

8.9 points per game

6.3 rebounds per game

2.2 assists per game

2.3 steals per game

Season high

17 points at Parowan on Jan. 26

Opposing coach scouting report

“Samantha is a great all-around player. She defiantly assisted in the Mustangs Region and State championships. She raised the bar on the team with her intense play. She wanted to win and she was willing to do what it took.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A Third Team

2014 — 1A Honorable Mention

Brieann Birch, Panguitch

Sr., Guard

2016-2017 statistics

10.0 points per game

4.0 assists per game

3.0 steals per game

Season high

22 points vs. Wayne on Feb. 9

Opposing coach scouting report

“Brianna Birch is the most fierce competitor I have faced in a number of years. Her tenacious defense leads to multiple turnovers each time we play. Her quick move to the basket is tough to stop the first couple of times because she gets there before you have a chance to react! Can lead her team to a victory because so much focus is on stopping her.”

1A Second Team

Bailey Wall, Tintic

Sr., Guard

2016-2017 statistics

15.8 points per game

9.4 rebounds per game

2.8 assists per game

Season high

32 points vs. Monument Valley on Feb. 17

Opposing coach scouting report

“Bailey Wall is a great Guard for Tintic. She handles the ball very well. She has a quick release on her shot and distributes the ball very well. The only way we stopped her this year is by putting a box and 1 on her. She is fast and plays ball very well. She will crash the boards on offense and defense and because of her height she will come up with a lot of loose balls. She is scrappy on defense and will make the ball-handler work with the ball. She is fast and can create turnovers for her and her team.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A Third Team

2015 — 1A Third Team

2014 — 1A Third Team

Kathleen Tomon, St. Joseph

Sr., Forward

2016-2017 statistics

19.7 points per game

12.1 rebounds per game

2.0 assists per game

2.0 steals per game

Season high

36 points at Wendover on Jan. 24

Opposing coach scouting report

“It is very difficult to coach against a player like Kat. She is a competitor, and will never take a play off, she works hard not only to improve herself but everyone around her. It is very obvious that she worked very hard this off-season to improve her skills on the perimeter and get even better with her inside game. She is one of the hardest working and passionate players that I have ever coached against. She takes the time to prepare and come game time is ready to compete.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A Second Team

2015 — 1A Honorable Mention

Shaelee Nay, Tabiona

Sr., Forward

2016-2017 statistics

9.0 points per game

Season high

19 points vs. Pinnacle on Dec. 19

Opposing coach scouting report

“Shaelee is a great ball handler. She will take it to the rack and finish or drive and draw the foul. She will finish at the free throw line. With that she will dish to Rhoades or Stuart on the weak side block. Shaelee is the team leader keeps the team going forward.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A Honorable Mention

Allie Maughan, Monticello

Sr., Guard

2016-2017 statistics

7.6 points per game

4.1 rebounds per game

3.8 assists per game

3.6 steals per game

Season high

13 points at Whitehorse on Feb. 3

Opposing coach scouting report

“Allie has great quickness and expertly played the playmaker of their squad. She's a phenomenal shooter but won't take anything when there's a teammate open somewhere on the court. She's very fundamentally sound in all areas of her game. None of our girls wanted Allie to guard them because they knew if she did they were going to be mercilessly harassed and have to work extra hard for everything they got. And if you managed to get a shot off, there was no way you'd be getting your own rebound; Allie never seemed to miss a box out. And the task of guarding Allie was one you knew would wear you out. She's super quick and works really hard offensively to make things happen. She's been a great team leader and while it was enjoyable to watch her, I'm glad we won't be going up against her next year.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A Honorable Mention

2015 — 1A Honorable Mention

Kierra Groll, Rich

Jr., Guard

2016-2017 statistics

12.7 points per game

1.1 assists per game

1.6 steals per game

Season high

36 points at Bear Lake, Idaho on Dec. 9

Opposing coach scouting report

“You always have to know where Kierra is on the court. She is always a threat and she never lets up. Her intensity in pushing the ball up the court, feeding the ball to her teammates, driving to the basket and pulling up 3-point shots make her difficult to contain. If you give her the slightest amount of space or are slightly out of position she will hurt you. We knew we had to do everything we could to deny her the fast break, keep her in front of us on the defensive end and always have a hand up on the shot. A team that has a great guard like Kierra is always tough to beat.”

Past all-state honors

2016 — 1A Third Team

Kassidy Ellett, Wayne

Sr., Guard

2016-2017 statistics

12.2 points per game

Season high

31 points at Water Canyon on Nov. 30

Opposing coach scouting report

“Kassidy is an amazing shooter. I practiced my girls on how to guard her but Kassidy easily would find ways to score, especially from the 3-point line. She has quick feet and pushed the floor well. She was a leader on the court and she did her job well.”

Past all-state honors
