SALT LAKE CITY — A man is dead after being struck by two vehicles, including a police car, Thursday night.
A Unified Police officer was driving his patrol vehicle on 1300 South, east of Main Street, shortly before midnight when a man who was crossing the street east of the crosswalk stepped out in front of the car, according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Derek Dimond.
"It was raining pretty hard and the officer didn't see the pedestrian in the roadway until he actually struck him," Dimond said. "After he struck him, the pedestrian was thrown into the westbound lanes where a westbound vehicle actually struck him a second time."
The man, who Dimond said appeared to be about 30-years-old, was pronounced dead on the scene.
The incident is still under investigation, Dimond said. Police have not yet released the name of the man who was killed.
