TAYLORSVILLE — Unified police were investigating Thursday a report that someone fired shots at a man running to the store.

The man, 20, told police he was running from his apartment to the store about 12:30 a.m., and ran through the parking lot of an abandoned gas station, 5400 S. 2700 West. That's where the man said he heard someone yell at him in a Spanish accent, followed by the sound of multiple gunshots, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

Several nearby residents called police to report the gunfire.

"We don't even know if he was being shot at, if he was the target," Lohrke said.

The man was not injured. Investigators found several shell casings at the scene. Lohrke did not know Thursday if detectives determined where the bullets ended up or if any nearby structures were hit.

Anyone with information about the gunman can call police at 801-743-7000.
