Utah State women's volleyball opens its 2016 Mountain West slate at Nevada on Thursday, facing the Wolf Pack in Reno at 7:30 p.m. MT.
The Aggies enter the week with an overall mark of 5-6, having won two of their last three matches. Senior outside Kaylie Kamalu-Smith has led the USU attack during the stretch with double-digit kills in five-consecutive matches and has totaled 120 on the year, averaging a team-best 3.43 per set. Junior outside Lauren Anderson leads Utah State overall with 125 kills, averaging 3.38 per set.
Senior setter Erica Moscoso has directed the attack, recording 314 assists and averaging 10.13 per set, fifth in the Mountain West. Overall, Utah State is hitting .227 (497-194-1,336) on the year.
Defensively, senior libero Hannah Gleason has recorded double-digit digs in the last two matches for the Aggies, tallying 151 on the year and averaging 3.78 per set. Junior middle Carly Lenzen has paced the Utah State block this season, totaling 39 and averaging 1.00 per set. Overall, opponents have hit .216 (521-221-1,390) against the Aggies this season.
Nevada enters the match with an overall mark of 9-3, including a perfect 3-0 ledger at home this season.
The Wolf Pack offense has hit .265 (610-226-1,450) this season, second in the Mountain West, and is led by senior outside Madison Morell with 199 kills, averaging a team and Mountain West-best 4.33 kills per set. Morell also leads the Nevada back row with 117 digs this season, averaging 2.54 per set.
Overall, Nevada’s defense has held opponents to a .230 (586-243-1,494) hitting percentage, while averaging 11.96 digs and 2.18 blocks per set. Middles Shayla Hoeft and Kathryn Groenweghe lead the Wolf Pack block, totaling 44 and 43 blocks, respectively.
Head coach Lee Nelson is in his second year, compiling an overall mark of 22-20 during that span. The Wolf Pack lead the all-time series against the Aggies, 21-20, with the team splitting matches last season. Utah State is 5-1 all-time against Nevada since joining the Mountain West.
