OGDEN — Due to halftime adjustments, the Sky View Bobcats came out on fire to outscore the Vikings 16 to 6 in the third period and 25-17 in the final period to win their first-round game in the 5A basketball playoffs, 63-49, over the Pleasant Grove Vikings at Weber State in Ogden.
In the first half, Pleasant Grove played well and handled the ball with quick passing and took advantage of a Bobcat team that appeared to be on their heels. Sky View started to get back into the flow during the last couple of minutes of the second period. The dagger that should have put the Vikings on notice was the last second buzzer beater trey from senior Jake Hendricks that brought the Bobcats to within four points as the buzzer sounded the end of the first half. On that shot, the momentum took the wind out of the Vikings sails and they had a terrible time recovering.
The third period went all Sky View's way as they scored eight unanswered points and controlled the ball. With 5:22 remaining in the period, the Bobcats passed Pleasant Grove and the Vikings took a time out with the score 30-26. Sky View never fell behind again.
During the last three minutes, the Vikings began fouling the Bobcats to try to get back into the game on foul shots, but Pleasant Grove's usual great shot players could not convert shots.Comment on this story
