SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Republican Party vice chairman Phill Wright and former state Rep. Chris Herrod, R-Provo, will head GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz's state leadership team.

"All across the West and throughout America, we are gaining momentum by having principled, conservative voters unite behind us," the Texas senator said in a prepared statement.

Wright said Cruz is a candidate who "truly 'gets it' and understands what the middle class is going through." Herrod added that Cruz has shown that he can be "trusted to take on the Washington cartel and fight for our shared values."

Others on the Cruz team include Rep. Curt Oda, R-Clearfield; former GOP Reps. Ken Sumsion and Matt Throckmorton; Stefani Williams, former deputy chief of staff to Alan Keyes; and Ted Cruz College Republican coordinator Jake Lee, nephew to Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah.

Sen. Lee has not endorsed a presidential candidate.
