Utahns in baseball: Mariners designate John Buck for assignment; Ex-Ute Tyler Wagner's scoreless streak snapped
Taylor Cole (BYU), Dunedin (Toronto Blue Jays): Allowed three hits and one run in five innings, while striking out seven batters in his return to the mound Thursday. Cole led the Blue Jays to a 7-4 win over Daytona.
Cole improved to 6-5 on the season, and lowered his ERA back to 3.15 on the season. The win snapped Cole’s three-game losing streak, in which the former BYU pitcher had allowed 23 hits and 14 runs in 14 innings (9.00 ERA). Cole has 114 strikeouts in 97 innings.
Jake Hannemann (BYU), Kane County (Chicago Cubs): Had four hits, one double, one home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases in 18 at-bats throughout the week. The former BYU standout is batting .262 on the season, with 24 extra base hits, 39 RBIs, 56 runs scored and 30 stolen bases in 81 games this year.
Adam Law (BYU), Rancho Cucamonga (Los Angeles Dodgers): Had six hits, one triple, three RBIs, three runs scored and one stolen base in 28 at-bats during the week. He’s batting .304 in 63 games, with 14 doubles, two triples, 26 RBIs and 42 runs scored.
Brady Lail (Bingham H.S.), Charleston (New York Yankees): Allowed five hits, one walk and one run in five innings, leading Charleston to a 4-1 win over Savannah on Saturday. Lail also struck out seven batters in the win.
The win was Lail’s first since May 23, and the South Jordan native improved to 8-4 on the season. He has a 3.71 ERA this season.
Marcus Littlewood (Pine View H.S.), Clinton (Seattle Mariners): Had one hit and one run scored in 11 at-bats this week. After a hot start to the season, Littlewood has cooled down. He’s batting just .098 over his last 10 games. The St. George native is batting .231, with five home runs, 12 doubles and 31 RBIs in 56 games this year.
Adam Miller (BYU), South Bend (Arizona Diamondbacks): Had1-0, 0.00 ERA in two appearances for South Bend. Miller picked up a win on Tuesday, pitching a perfect inning of relief against Dayton. He then tossed another perfect 1 2/3 innings against Fort Wayne on Friday.
Miller last pitched for the Silver Hawks on May 15 before landing on the disabled list. He is 4-0, with a 2.61 ERA in South Bend. He was a starter before the injury.
Dominique Taylor (Northridge H.S.), Lexington (Kansas City Royals): Remains on the 7-day disabled list. He’s batting .305 this season, with five home runs, four triples, 14 doubles, 30 RBIs and 38 runs scored in 61 games this season. Taylor last played on June 24.
Tyler Wagner (Utah), Brevard County (Milwaukee Brewers): Allowed five hits and one run in 8 1/3 innings while striking out nine batters. Wagner had his 27-inning scoreless streak snapped, but has allowed just one run in his last four starts.
Wagner now leads the Florida State League with a 1.74 ERA in 16 starts
Keenyn Walker (Judge Memorial H.S.), Winston-Salem (Chicago White Sox): Had six hits, four RBIs, two runs scored and one stolen base in 27 at-bats throughout the week. Walker is batting .143 in Winston-Salem this year.
Short season leagues:
Eddy Alvarez (Salt Lake C.C.), Arizona White Sox (Chicago White Sox): Had two hits and two runs scored in 16 at-bats throughout the week. Alvarez has a .228 average in 14 games thus far. He has three doubles, a triple, four RBIs and 10 runs scored.
Tanner Banks (Utah), Arizona White Sox (Chicago White Sox): Had 1-0, 0.00 ERA in two combined appearances during the week. Banks allowed just one walk in two innings in a win over the AZL Athletics on Tuesday, while striking out three. He then allowed just one walk in 1 1/3 innings against the AZL Brewers on Friday.
Banks has a 1.08 ERA in 8 1/3 innings this season.
Bubba Blau (Dixie State), Arizona Brewers (Milwaukee Brewers): Allowed two hits and two runs (zero earned) in three innings, picking up a loss to the AZL White Sox on Thursday. The Roy native is 0-1, with a 0.73 ERA in 12 1/3 innings this season.
Nick Green (Utah), Idaho Falls (Kansas City Royals): Had 0-0, 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the week. Green picked up a save on Friday at Billings, allowing just two hits in 1 1/3 shutout innings. Green picked up another save on Sunday at Great Falls, getting the only batter he faced out to shut the door for Idaho Falls.
Green has three saves in six appearances totaling 5 1/3 innings. He also has a 0.00 ERA.
Kavin Keyes (Alta H.S.), Arizona Mariners (Seattle Mariners): Had zero hits in two at-bats for the AZL Mariners on Saturday. It was Keyes’ professional baseball debut.
Trey Nielsen (Utah), State College (St. Louis Cardinals): Had 0-0, 1.80 ERA in two appearances this week. Nielson allowed just one hit in 2 2/3 shutout innings, picking up a save against Auburn on Monday. Nielson then allowed just one run in 2 1/3 innings against Brooklyn on Thursday.
The righty is 3-0, with a 1.53 ERA in the short season New York-Penn League this season.
Mitch Watrous (Utah), Arizona Padres (San Diego Padres): Remains on reserve list. Has not made minor league debut yet.
