Television is often a glimpse into culture — a snapshot of what American society is like when the show airs.
And it’s only going to grow from now on because many new shows are being brought into the American television landscape. Some of those shows, too, are old favorites.
Here’s a look at some television shows on their way back that kids might enjoy.
Starting on Sept. 1, “Sesame Street” is going to add an additional half-hour program that will run in addition to the hour-long broadcast PBS already has. It will also be available online, through both PBS’ video app and on Roku, according to Variety.
“Magic School Bus”
Netflix is bringing back the “Magic School Bus” — the Scholastic Media show that promoted science and learning, according to The New York Times. It’s scheduled to launch in 2016, the newspaper reported. No matter when it debuts, it may help young kids find interest in science.
“Ever After High” and "Dinotrux"
Netflix isn’t stopping with just a “Magic School Bus” reboot. Based on the Mattel doll franchise "Ever After High," Netflix will stream both a movie and a series beginning in 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Netflix is also planning to launch “Dinotrux” in 2015.
It was first reported in December that this new show focusing on the offspring of many Disney villains would be making its way to Disney. Now, set photos have been released by Entertainment Weekly of the live-action, musical adventure comedy that’s set to be released in 2015.
“Girl Meets World”
Teens of the 1990s have something to look forward to: “Girl Meets World,” the spinoff/sequel TV show to “Boy Meets World.” The show is expected to have the same wit and humor as its predecessor, attracting new and old fans alike, according to the show’s creator and cast.
“The Lion Guard”
Just when viewers thought the spin-offs would stop coming, Disney decided to cash-in on “The Lion King.” A new show “The Lion Guard” will air on Disney Junior and Disney Channel starting in fall 2015, Disney announced last week.
