Bret Lopez of BYU made the first cut Monday in The Fan’s Choice Award balloting in which the champion will be honored at the 2014 TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby, airing Thursday, July 3 on ESPN at 8:30 p.m. ET.

At one point near the end of Monday's first-round balloting, Lopez advanced to the top of the 10-player field, but he fell back into second and third places as the second of three rounds began. The Orem native and senior designated hitter advances to Round 2 voting, which continues until 11:59 am CT on June 16. The top four vote-getters will advance to Round 3, which takes place starting on June 16 at 12:00 pm CT, and continues until 11:59 am CT on June 23.

Fans can cast a daily vote on Facebook. Lopez, the past co-chair of the Cougar Athletic Council, is not hitting in the derby, so the only way he can get to Omaha is by winning the balloting.
