UTA to begin construction on TRAX stations

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Transit Authority next week will begin construction on its Red Line stations along 400 South and to the University of Utah.

The upgrades include removal of the concrete tactile strip, the concrete section at the edge of the platform with raised concrete bumps, replacing it with a much more visible yellow plastic tactile strip. Also, improvements will be made to some of the platform edges that have degraded over time.

The new yellow tactile strip has become the standard UTA uses on its stations, and this work will begin to convert the entire system to this safety standard.

Construction should not impact travel times but will create some impacts to access on the stations. The work will be done in quarters, with half of the eastbound and half of the westbound portions of the platform under construction at a time.

The construction schedule for the stations is: Trolley, May 11-22; Library, May 23-June 3; 900 East, June 4-18; Stadium, June 19-July 3; South Campus, July 4-15; Fort Douglas, July 16-27; and Medical Center, July 28-Aug. 8.

All dates are subject to change.
