Utah Valley University and Seattle University begin a key Western Athletic Conference series Friday at 6 p.m. at Brent Brown Ballpark. It’s the final home series of the year for the Wolverines, who have seven seniors playing for the final time at home.

Six games remain in the conference regular season with UVU (22-24, 13-8) starting the weekend in third place and winners of eight out of 10 games overall. The Redhawks (22-21, 10-8) are currently in sixth, and along with the Wolverines, they sit in a pack of teams vying for both a berth and for seeding in the WAC Tournament.

Utah Valley won three of four games on its recent trip to New Mexico starting with a series win at New Mexico State in WAC play. The Wolverines got a pair of complete-game wins to take two of three from the Aggies, Danny Beddes pitched UVU to an 8-1 win in the opener, and following an 11-3 loss in the middle game, Andrew Freter went the distance in a 4-1 victory. In his start, Beddes struck out 10 and did not allow a walk.

On Monday, in a non-league game at New Mexico, the Wolverines used two, five-run innings — including five in the top of the first — to knock off the Mountain West’s co-leading Lobos.

Sean Moysh homered three times on the trip, twice last Saturday at NM State and once at New Mexico. Beau Kallas also homered twice at New Mexico State.

Seattle U lost two of three at home to Grand Canyon, which currently sits in second place in the league standings at 14-7. The Redhawks rank second in the league in team batting (.277) and are third in team ERA (3.77). Sophomore Landon Cray leads the WAC with a .372 batting average.

Next week, Utah Valley plays its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday at Nevada of the Mountain West Conference, before traveling to Phoenix for a three-game series at Grand Canyon to wrap up the regular season.
