Here’s a recap of the four 2A region track and field championship meets that were held earlier this week.

Region 13

DELTA — Delta and Millard flip-flopped first- and second-place finishes at the Region 13 track and field championships at Delta High School on Tuesday.

Delta’s boys ran away with the team title with 151 points, followed by Millard with 102 and Parowan with 100. On the girls side, Millard narrowly edged Delta for the team title, 149 to 142.

Delta’s Jaron Fowles and Logan Smith helped pace the boys with a pair of individual titles, with Fowles winning both hurdles and Smith the long jump and high jump. Smith’s long jump of 21-02 narrowly missed the top 10 performances list in Utah this year.

In shot put, Daven Russell didn’t miss. His throw of 58-08-.50 is the best throw in Utah this year. He also won the discus.

On the girls side, Anna Camp won an incredible four events (100, 400, 800 and 1,600) to lead Millard to the team title.

Beaver track sensation Kellie Macdonald won both the 100 hurdles and long jump. Her long jump of 17-08-00 is the fourth best jump in Utah this year. She already owns the best 100 hurdles time in Utah this year at 14.66, but she only needed a 15.10 run on Tuesday to prevail.

Region 14

SALT LAKE CITY — Rowland Hall’s boys and girls track teams swept the Region 14 titles at the University of Utah McCarthey Track Stadium on Tuesday.

Eli Oftedal was superb for the boys, winning the 400, 1,600 and 3,200 meters, while Layton Christian’s Elijah Lenaburg was also a multi-event winner in the shot put and discus.

Rowland Hall’s girls won 11 of 16 events, with Katie White winning both the 100 and 200 hurdles. The only other multi-event winner at the meet was Maeser Prep’s Hollis Belnap, who won the discus and shot put.

Region 15

SALINA — Grand’s boys won seven events, while the girls won five events as the Red Devils each won their respective team titles as the Region 15 track and field championships at North Sevier High School on Tuesday.

Grand’s Wade Kemmsies (110 and 300 hurdles) and Jacob Francis (1,600 and 3,200) each won two events to lead Grand’s boys who finished with 171 team points. San Juan was a close second with 162 points, thanks in large part to a great meet by Max Morley and Brittain Bowring.

Bowring won the high jump and long jump, while Morley won the 100, 200 and 400 meters.

On the girls side, Grand rolled to the team title with 166 points, with North Sevier in a distant second with 104 points.

Tiffanie Whipple was Grand’s lone multi-event winner in the long jump and 100 hurdles. North Sevier’s Peyton Torgerson won three events (400, 800 and 1,600) while Emery sprinter Ashlynn Allred easily won the 100 and 200 meters. Allred owns the third fastest 100 time in Utah this year, but she ran a very controlled race on Tuesday.

Region 16

MANTI — North Summit’s boys and girls dominated the Region 16 championships at Manti High School on Wednesday.

North Summit’s boys won nine events to finish with 197 points, while host Manti finished second by winning seven events. North Summit’s Jonathan Rothschild won the 800 and 3,200 meters to pace the Braves.

Manti was led by three-multi events winners: Trevor Alder (110 and 300 hurdles), Braden King (high jump and long jump) and Dane Nordmark (shot put and discus).

North Summit’s girls tallied a whopping 200 points to claim first, with Manti a distant second with 127 points. Haylee McQueen won the high jump and long jump for North Summit, while teammate Abbie Zwahlen was a multi-event winner as well in the 400 and 800 meters.
