UVU golf: Dart leads Wolverines after first round at El Macero
A team score of 313 pits the Utah Valley University men's golf team in 12th place after Friday's opening round at the El Macero Classic. Junior Michael Dart led UVU with a 2-over-74, ending the day in a tie for 20th on the individual leaderboard.
"Today was rough," Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran said. "We put ourselves in trouble off the tee and couldn't get the speed of the greens. We need to put together a good round tomorrow."
The Wolverines' team score of 313 trails 11th place Boise State by a single stroke. Tournament co-host UC Davis holds the top spot after day one with a 283, followed closely by reigning champion Cal State Fullerton at 285. Rounding out the top five are Nevada (293) and Sacramento State (293) — tied for third — and Colorado State (297) and WAC-member Grand Canyon (297) — tied for fifth.
Two more WAC programs, Idaho (301) and Seattle U (305), are in eighth and 10th place, respectively.
Brayden Eriksen turned in the only other sub-80 round for Utah Valley on Friday, carding a 4-over-76 to tie for 33rd. Freshman JT Timmons shot an even 80, while Corey Eccles and Preston Richards finished the day with 83s.
Round two of the El Macero Classic gets underway Saturday morning at the El Macero Golf Club. The third and final round will be played Sunday. Live scoring for both days is available through Golfstat.
