Utah Valley University's Michael McPherson and Brooke Hodson-Davies were named the Western Athletic Conference's men's and women's track Athletes of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday.

McPherson, a junior from Parker, Colo. (Chaparral Parker HS), placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.85, fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.91) and fifth in the long jump (6.98m) at Cal State Fullerton's Ben Brown Invitational. He also competed on the 4x400-meter relay squad that finished in 11th place out of 23 teams with a time of 3:22.89. The times McPherson recorded in the 100m, 110m hurdles and 4x400m relay, as well as his mark in the long jump, all lead the WAC. He also currently ranks 13th nationally in the long jump and 25th in the 100m dash.

Hodson-Davies, a senior from Orem, Utah (Timpanogos HS), won the 3000-meter steeplechase and took third in the 1500m over the weekend at a series of events in Southern California. Hodson-Davies opened her weekend by winning the steeplechase at the Oxy Distance Carnival with a time of 10:27.98. Her blazing time was 35 seconds faster than the second-place finisher and 2.5 seconds quicker than her 2013 NCAA qualifying time. She then followed up her stellar outing by taking third in the 1500-meter run at Cal State Fullerton's Ben Brown Invitational with a time of 4:40.50. Hodson-Davies currently ranks second in the nation for the outdoor season in the steeplechase and 18th in the 1500m.

The conference honor is McPherson and Hodson-Davies' first of the outdoor season.

Bakersfield's Bryan Wilmert and Texas-Pan American's Jasmine Davison were also recognized by the conference Tuesday as the field Athletes of the Week.

Other track nominees: Deandra Barroso, Texas-Pan American (women's). Other field nominees: Trey Taylor, Texas-Pan American (men’s); Ryle Williams, Utah Valley (men's); and Bennie Foster, Utah Valley (women's).
