Once again, Utah will be well represented at a USA Rugby Eagles camp.
Three-time All-American and BYU team captain Kyle Sumsion, former Ute John Cullen and BYU alum Shaun Davies will participate in the USA Rugby Eagle’s Domestic Camp at Life University in preparation for the IRB Rugby World Cup 2015 Qualifier against Uruguay.
“It’s exciting to represent my country and school, especially playing a sport I love so much,” Sumsion said. “It’s always great to catch up with old friends and play with these guys.”
Davies is currently playing for the Life University men’s team.
This will be the second Eagles camp for Sumsion, the first coming in November of last year when he earned his first USA cap against the New Zealand Maori All Blacks. Sumsion is the only collegiate player among the pool of 27 players.
The camp will run Feb. 20-23 at Life University in Murrieta, Ga., and will end with a scrimmage against the school’s men’s club team.
Those Eagles selected from this domestic camp will reunite the second week of March for the Rugby World Cup Qualifier assembly before starting the home-and-away qualifier. The first leg will be hosted by Uruguay on March 22 and the second on March 29 at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga.

“We’re looking to get them back in the swing of things, get the rust off,” Eagles head coach Mike Tolkin said of the domestic players. “It’s been two and a half months since we disassembled in London and a lot of them aren’t playing ball now.”
Upon his return, Sumsion and the Cougars will prepare for their home opener against the Glendale Raptors club team on March 1 at South Field.
