The Utah Valley wrestling team mustered just two wins in its regular season finale Saturday at Wyoming as it fell, 32-6, to the Cowboys (5-6, 3-1 WWC). With the loss, the Wolverines ended their season 6-9 overall and 2-3 in Western Wrestling Conference duals.

The dual meet began at 197 pounds, and Wyoming took a quick 15-0 advantage after winning the first three bouts of the contest, including one by fall and another by forfeit. Sophomore Chasen Tolbert then got UVU on the board with a 7-1 decision at 133 pounds over UW's Gunnar Woodburn. The win marked Tolbert's 13th of the season and pulled the Wolverines' to within 15-3, but that was as close as Utah Valley would get as the Cowboys' won five of the final six bouts to take the contest.

With UW later leading 29-3, senior 174-pounder Monte Schmalhaus came through for UVU in the ninth match of the contest with a 4-0 decision victory over Brent Havlik. Schmalhaus blanked Havlik with a first-period takedown, a second-frame escape and an additional riding time point.

Schmalhaus' win would be the last for the Wolverines, however, as No. 18 Benjamin Stroh capped the dual for the Pokes with a 4-0 win over Ethan Smith at 184 pounds.

The loss marked Utah Valley's second in as many nights, as it fell at Air Force on Friday, 24-13. It also concluded UVU's three-match road swing through the Front Range with a 1-2 record as the Wolverines began the trip with a 25-12 victory over Northern Colorado on Wednesday.

UVU will now turn its attention to the postseason, as it will host the NCAA West Regional/WWC Championships for the first time in program history at the UCCU Center on Saturday, March 8. That day the Wolverines will try to qualify as many wrestlers as they can for the 2014 NCAA Championships that will be held March 20-22 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
