Crisis hotlines now available through text

Young people aren’t just calling into hotlines, but texting in as well.

The New York Times ran a piece that looked into crisis hotlines that are helping through text message.

It especially helps young people keep up their reputation or allow them to still get through to a hotline if someone that’s threatening them is nearby, The Times reported.

“They can still look ‘cool’ to their peers or friends while receiving assistance that they are in desperate need of,” said Jerry Weichman, a clinical psychologist in Newport Beach, Calif., to The New York Times.
