SALT LAKE CITY — Utah coach Kyle Whittingham's 10th recruiting class officially took shape Wednesday on National Letter of Intent signing day.
Recruits began faxing in their national letters of intent Wednesday morning.
During his press conference announcing the signees, Utes coach Kyle Whittingham said this class, which includes seven offensive players and nine defensive players, brings a lot of speed with it.
The following athletes signed letters of intent with Utah Wednesday — player bios provided by the Utah athletic department:
JACKSON BARTON: OL, 6-7, 291, Brighton High School
Early high school graduate enrolled in classes in January and will participate in spring camp … first-team 5A all-state as a junior and senior and second-team as a sophomore … four-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com … made the Rivals 100 at No. 70 … ranked No. 7 nationally at his position and No. 1 overall in Utah by Rivals … Scout ranked him No. 20 nationally at offensive tackle and No. 3 in Utah at any position (No. 1 offensive lineman) … played in the U.S. Army All-American Combine … three-year starter … Brighton High (Utah) team captain … Brighton played for the 2013 5A Utah state championship … also played basketball for Brighton.
TEVIN CARTER: DB, 6-1, 213, L.A. Southwest (Calif.) College
Signed with Utah in 2013 but did not qualify academically … has one year of eligibility … attended El Camino College this past year but did not play football … originally signed with Cal, redshirting in 2010 as a highly-ranked wide receiver … transferred to L.A. Southwest College, where he played safety … 2011 and 2012 SCFA first-team all-conference safety … L.A. Southwest's leading defender as a sophomore in 2012 had 62 tackles (3 TFL), three interceptions, four pass breakups and a forced fumble … 32 tackles (3 TFL, 1 sack), two interceptions, four pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 2011 … four-star receiver by both Rivals and Scout as a prep player at Santee HS (Calif.) … SuperPrep All-Far West team … Southern League Defensive Player of the Year … first-team all-city (L.A.) in 2008 and 2009.
KAELIN CLAY: WR, 5-10, 188, Mount San Antonio (Calif.) College
First-team all-conference receiver and 2013 preseason Junior College All-American … has one year of eligibility … led the SCFA Central Conference in receiving yards (995), yards per game (90.5) and touchdowns (16), while finishing second in receptions (52) and yards per catch (19.1) in 2013 … led Mt. San Antonio College in both 2012 and 2013 in receptions, receiving yards, touchdown catches, kick returns, all-purpose yards and scoring … caught 90 passes in his Mt. SAC career for 1,654 yards and 24 touchdowns … averaged 34.5 yards per kick return in his two seasons with five touchdowns … also led Mt. SAC in punt returns in 2013 with 17 for 245 yards (14.4 average) and one TD … averaged a team-best 184.8 all-purpose yards per game in 2013 … SCFA Central Conference Special Teams/All-Purpose Player of the Week against Saddleback, catching four passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, returning six kicks for 147 yards and returning a punt 75 yards for a touchdown … initially signed with Cal out of Long Beach Poly HS as Rivals.com's No. 53 wide receiver nationally … SuperPrep All-American and All-Moore League as a senior at Long Beach Poly in 2009.
ALANI HAVILI-KATOA: DT, 6-3, 295, Stansbury High School
Early high school graduate enrolled in classes in January and will participate in spring camp … all-region and honorable mention all-state in 2013 … rated the fifth-best player in Utah at any position by Rivals.com and 35th nationally among defensive tackles … Salt Lake Tribune first-team 3A all-state as a junior in 2012 … 150 career tackles (8.0 TFL) and 4.0 sacks.
LOWELL LOTULELEI: DT, 6-2, 290, Bingham High School
Played in the Semper Fi All-American Bowl after his senior season in 2012 … after graduating from Bingham HS (Utah), he spent last year involved in church service … was the No. 2 overall prospect in Utah by Scout.com and 247sports.com … Deseret News 2012 first-team 5A all-state … Salt Lake Tribune second-team 5A all-state … first-team all-region 3 … 61 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and one forced fumble his senior season … lettered four years at Bingham … son of Star and Pesatina Lotulelei … older brother Star, a first-round draft pick and starting defensive tackle for the Carolina Panthers in 2013, was a first-team All-American for Utah, where he played from 2010-12.
CASEY HUGHES: CB, 6-1, 185, Legacy (Nev.) High School
First-team all-state cornerback and second-team all-state running back as a senior at Legacy High (Nev.) … will play cornerback at Utah … 2012 all-Northwest League selection … as a senior, he made 68 tackles (50 solo and 1.0 TFL), had one interception, four pass breakups and caused a fumble, while also rushing 123 times for 1,031 (8.38 average) and 14 touchdowns … his 1,214 all-purpose yards in 2013 included 1,031 rushing, 97 receiving, 33 on kickoff returns, 23 on punt returns and 30 on interception returns … rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns against Palo Verde High … 193 yards and two touchdowns vs. Mojave HS in 2013 … in 2012, he had 63 tackles and one interception, while rushing for more than 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns.
TRAVONNE HOBBS: CB, 5-10, 185, Landry-Walker (La.) High School
4A first-team all-state cornerback by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) in 2013 … made nine interceptions his senior season … led Landry-Walker HS (La.) — a consolidation of two high schools, including O. Perry Walker High — to the 2013 Louisiana 4A state semifinals … named Top Defender at the National Select 7 on 7 Championships in July 2013 … made the 2012 all-district 9-4A team as a junior at O. Perry Walker High … New Orleans Metro Area 4A Player of the Week as a senior after a win over Easton HS, when he returned an interception 100 yards for a game-winning touchdown and also had four pass breakups and seven tackles.
PASONI TASINI: DT, 6-3, 260, Snow College
Has three years to play two … originally signed with Utah out of Baldwin High School (Hawaii) in 2012, but instead went to Snow College, where he played in 2012 and 2013 … Snow College team captain … 44 tackles and 4.0 tackles for loss (3.5 sacks), a fumble recovery and a pass breakup in 2013 … 14 tackles, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup in nine games in 2012 … in high school, he was the 2010-11 Maui News Maui Interscholastic League Male Athlete of the Year and two-time MIL Defensive Player of the Year … three-time first-team All-MIL … led Baldwin to the 2011 state semifinal game ... Baldwin won the league football title all four years (2008-10).
DONOVAN ISOM: QB, 6-5, 235, Destrehan (La.) High School
All-metro, honorable mention all-state and District 7-5A Offensive MVP in 2013 … passed for 2,600-plus yards and 33 touchdowns with just two interceptions while leading Destrehan High to the 2013 Louisiana 5A state semifinals … also rushed 82 times for 530 yards (6.6 average) and nine touchdowns as a senior … named the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the month for September … completed 12-of-13 passes for 267 yards and five touchdowns in win over West Jefferson and was named River Parishes Player of the Week … was 15-of-26 passing for 253 yards and five TDs vs. Thibodaux High … in his first year as a starter in 2012, he threw for 1,758 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 477 yards and eight scores … completed 77.8 percent of his career passes (261-426) for 3,866 yards and 38 touchdowns ... earned four letters in football and one in basketball.
ANDRE GODFREY: DB, 5-10, 186, Miramar (Fla.) High School
Third-team 8A all-state safety made the Rivals.com Florida Postseason Top 100 at No. 84 … Miramar High (Fla.) was 12-1 in 2013, losing 12-10 in the 8A regional finals to Palm Beach Gardens … in playoff win against Monarch HS, he had an interception and a pass break up … Miramar was ranked as high as No. 3 in the state going into the playoffs … as a junior in 2012, he had 83 tackles, four interceptions and four fumble recoveries … scored a 71-yard touchdown on a blocked kick.
MONTE SEABROOK: DB, 6-0, 180, Newberry (Fla.) High School
Played in the North-South All-Star Classic … projected to play safety at Utah after playing safety, corner, running back and wide receiver, as well as returning kicks and punts, and playing on special teams coverage units for Newberry HS (Fla.) … Associated Press 1A first-team all-state defensive back his senior season … 2,248 career all-purpose yards (600 rushing, 866 receiving, 481 kickoff returns, 46 punt returns, 255 interception returns on 11 interceptions) … his senior season, he had 41 tackles (1 TFL), five interceptions (returned 222 yards), two pass breakups, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery … rushed 78 times for 521 yards (6.68 average) and five touchdowns, and had 20 receptions for 276 yards and two touchdowns in 2013 … also plays basketball (averaged 12.6 points and in the first 16 games this season) and runs track.
RAELON SINGLETON: WR, 6-3, 190, Crosby (Texas) High School
First-team all-19-4A district and first-team all-area in 2013 … made 2013 all-VYPE football team as a "Can't Forget" receiver … 33 receptions for 773 yards (23.42 average) and 16 touchdowns in eight games as a senior … averaged 96.6 yards per game in 2013 when he helped Crosby High (Texas) win the Bi-District championship and advance to the Region III-4A area playoffs … 622 receiving yards and seven TDs as a junior, when he also returned a kickoff 45 yards … had 179 yards on seven catches and four touchdowns in win over Barbers Hill … also plays basketball and was first-team all-district and all-area in 2012-13 when he averaged 10.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.
MARCUS WILLIAMS: DB, 6-0, 168, Eleanor Roosevelt (Calif.) High School
Will play safety at Utah after playing defensive back and wide receiver at Eleanor Roosevelt HS (Calif.) … first-team all Big VIII League wide receiver … 60 tackles and six interceptions (which he returned for 175 yards), 1 pass breakup and a forced fumble his senior season … 41 receptions for 924 yards (22.54 average) and nine touchdowns in 2013 … 216 receiving yards and two TDs as a junior ... also plays basketball and competes in track and field … through the first 17 basketball games of 2013-14, he was averaging 8.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
TAVARIS WILLIAMS: RB, 5-10, 180, Fort White (Fla.) High School
Two-way player for Fort White High (Fla.) is projected to play running back for the Utes … Associated Press 4A first-team all-state running back his senior season … had 3,583 career all-purpose yards, including 2,897 rushing, 162 receiving and 524 on kickoff returns … averaged 72.4 yards a game rushing (8.4 average) and had 27 rushing touchdowns in his career … his senior season, he rushed 184 times for a school-record 1,819 yards (9.89 average) and 21 touchdowns … had five games over 255 yards, with a season-best 374 yards and four touchdowns in win over Tallahassee HS … also played cornerback, where his career totals were 88 tackles and six pass breakups … led Fort White High to its first district title ever in 2013 by rushing for 276 yards on 35 carries and scoring four touchdowns against Taylor County … lettered four years in football and three years in track and field, participating in the 100 and 200 meters and the long jump.
KENRIC YOUNG: WR, 6-2, 180, Gainesville (Fla.) High School
All-North Florida region and all-area in 2013 … two-way player for Gainesville High (Fla.) had 22 receptions for 450 yards (20.46 average) and six touchdowns as a senior … also had 37 tackles and four pass breakups ... Gainesville played for the state championship his junior season … also runs track and placed third at the 2013 3A state meet in the 400 meters … second in the 400 meters at the 3A Region 1 meet with a personal best 47.68 clocking … third in the 400 meters in the FSU Relays … Gainesville Sun all-area sprinter had best times of 10.82 in the 100 meters and 21.70 in the 200 meters.
DACORIUS 'DJ' LAW: RB, 5-10, 182, Haines City (Fla.) High School
First-team all-state by The Ledger newspaper in Lakeland, Fla. … Tampa Bay Times' Class 7A second-team all-state running back … first-team all-Polk County … second-leading rusher in Polk County in 2013 with 1,275 yards on 109 carries (11.7 average) and 13 touchdowns … in back-to-back games to end his senior season, he rushed for 147 yards and 269 yards (including a 97-yard scoring run) … also had a punt return and a kickoff return for touchdowns in his last two games at Haines City HS (Fla.) … as a junior, he rushed for 1,034 yards and eight touchdowns and his sophomore season, he finished with just more than 500 rushing yards … has 4.35 40 speed.
