SALT LAKE CITY — Utah coach Kyle Whittingham's 10th recruiting class officially took shape Wednesday on National Letter of Intent signing day.
Recruits began faxing in their national letters of intent Wednesday morning.
During his press conference announcing the signees, Utes coach Kyle Whittingham said this class, which includes seven offensive players and nine defensive players, brings a lot of speed with it.
The following athletes signed letters of intent with Utah Wednesday — player bios provided by the Utah athletic department:
JACKSON BARTON: OL, 6-7, 291, Brighton High School
Early high school graduate enrolled in classes in January and will participate in spring camp … first-team 5A all-state as a junior and senior and second-team as a sophomore … four-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com … made the Rivals 100 at No. 70 … ranked No. 7 nationally at his position and No. 1 overall in Utah by Rivals … Scout ranked him No. 20 nationally at offensive tackle and No. 3 in Utah at any position (No. 1 offensive lineman) … played in the U.S. Army All-American Combine … three-year starter … Brighton High (Utah) team captain … Brighton played for the 2013 5A Utah state championship … also played basketball for Brighton.
TEVIN CARTER: DB, 6-1, 213, L.A. Southwest (Calif.) College
Signed with Utah in 2013 but did not qualify academically … has one year of eligibility … attended El Camino College this past year but did not play football … originally signed with Cal, redshirting in 2010 as a highly-ranked wide receiver … transferred to L.A. Southwest College, where he played safety … 2011 and 2012 SCFA first-team all-conference safety … L.A. Southwest's leading defender as a sophomore in 2012 had 62 tackles (3 TFL), three interceptions, four pass breakups and a forced fumble … 32 tackles (3 TFL, 1 sack), two interceptions, four pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 2011 … four-star receiver by both Rivals and Scout as a prep player at Santee HS (Calif.) … SuperPrep All-Far West team … Southern League Defensive Player of the Year … first-team all-city (L.A.) in 2008 and 2009.
KAELIN CLAY: WR, 5-10, 188, Mount San Antonio (Calif.) College
First-team all-conference receiver and 2013 preseason Junior College All-American … has one year of eligibility … led the SCFA Central Conference in receiving yards (995), yards per game (90.5) and touchdowns (16), while finishing second in receptions (52) and yards per catch (19.1) in 2013 … led Mt. San Antonio College in both 2012 and 2013 in receptions, receiving yards, touchdown catches, kick returns, all-purpose yards and scoring … caught 90 passes in his Mt. SAC career for 1,654 yards and 24 touchdowns … averaged 34.5 yards per kick return in his two seasons with five touchdowns … also led Mt. SAC in punt returns in 2013 with 17 for 245 yards (14.4 average) and one TD … averaged a team-best 184.8 all-purpose yards per game in 2013 … SCFA Central Conference Special Teams/All-Purpose Player of the Week against Saddleback, catching four passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, returning six kicks for 147 yards and returning a punt 75 yards for a touchdown … initially signed with Cal out of Long Beach Poly HS as Rivals.com's No. 53 wide receiver nationally … SuperPrep All-American and All-Moore League as a senior at Long Beach Poly in 2009.
