The third-ranked Westminster College women’s basketball team completed a season-sweep of Rocky Mountain with a 69-59 win at the Fortin Center on Saturday night.
Westminster had four players score in double figures as it won for the ninth consecutive contest. The Griffins are now 16-2 overall this season, and they maintain a one-game lead in the conference race at 10-0. Rocky Mountain slips to 7-12 and 0-10.
Tia Pappas helped the Griffins clinch a spot in the Frontier Conference Tournament with her career-high 20 points. The junior shot 5-of-12 from the field and made nine of her 10 attempts from the foul line. She also grabbed six rebounds and had one assist.
The Griffins shot 43.4 percent as a team and scored 26 points in the paint. They were able to overcome a season-low 18.2 percent from beyond the arc by forcing Rocky into 16 turnovers and holding it to 38 percent shooting. Westminster had a 34-29 edge on the boards with 11 coming on the offensive end.
Shelby Ellsworth added 17 points for the Griffins on an 8-of-15 shooting night. Alli Blake scored 14 points with eight rebounds, and Kelsi Wells posted 13 points.
Rocky was led by 15 points from Brittany Kumm and 10 by Peyton Spencer.
Westminster will now return home for the final four home games of the regular season. The first of those happens Thursday when it hosts Dickinson State at 5:30 p.m. MST in the Behnken Field House.
