UVU track: Utah Valley wins 12 events at Idaho State’s Snake River Open
Freshman Lauren Hicks paced Utah Valley University's track and field teams Saturday at Idaho State's Snake River Open as she set a new school record in the triple jump for the third straight meet. As a whole, UVU won 12 events and had 39 top-three finishes.
"It was a solid meet. We had good competition in all events today," UVU head coach Scott Houle said. "We were pleased with the kids' efforts and feel the majority of the team is moving in the right direction."
Hicks, the reigning WAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, set a new record for Utah Valley in the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.56-meters (37-11). Her new record-breaking jump was also good enough to win the event.
The current WAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week in senior Brooke Hodson-Davies continued her early season success in the distance events as she won the 1-mile run with a time of 5:05.08.
Fellow WAC Field Athlete of the Week on the men's side junior Michael McPherson also continued his dominant indoor campaign as he won the long jump with a mark of 7.01m, while sophomore Cole Eisenhour — who is the WAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week — took second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.20 seconds. His finish was a mere five one-hundredths of a second slower than the 8.15 school record he set last week. Eisenhour also won the 60m hurdles open race at meet in a time of 8.24.
Junior Nicholas Taylor also had a big meet as he won the 200m dash in a time of 21.66, and sophomore Trac Norris brought home the 800m run title with a time of 1:53.57. Seniors Michael Ashton and Marcus Pratt also shared the men's pole vault title by clearing 4.65m, while the relay team of Eisenhour, Taylor, Norris and freshman Brandon Smart won the 4x400m (3:18.16). Freshman Bryce Richards took first in the triple jump (12.91m), sophomore Trevor Sharp won the 1-mile (4:23.89), junior Ty Rosser took first in the high jump (1.85m) and freshman Emily Krout won the women's high jump (1.50m). Current assistant coach and former Wolverine Tim Rowberry also won the 800m open with a time of 1:54.86.
In other notable finishes on the women's side, Sam Sweet took second in the 400m (57.84), Aisha Graham (2nd, 800m, 2:18.15), Ivie Gonsalves (3rd, 1-mile, 5:12.64), the relay team of Sydney Bricker, Samantha Reeves, Corrie Lamoreaux and Sweet (2nd, 4x400m, 3:54.85), Ali Shields (2nd, triple jump, 11.29m), Caity Beddes (2nd 800m, 2:24.05), Maddie Riggs (3rd, 800m, 2:26.83), Mackenzie Snyder (3rd, 1-mile, 5:24.21), Mindy Stapel (3rd, 60m hurdles, 9.60) and Joni Warnick (second, pole vault, 3.20m).
