The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Orlando Solar Bears, 3-2, in overtime Thursday night at Amway Center to win their fourth-straight game.
Phil Mangan blasted a power-play goal 3:35 into overtime to give Utah the win after he gave the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead in the third period on the power-play.
Aaron Dell stopped 35 of 37 shots to improve to 6-1 as he won his sixth-straight start.
Utah tied the game at 1-1 at 12:23 of the second period after David Vallorani blasted home his 10th goal of the year on a setup from Michael Pelech as the Grizzlies grinded five-on-five in the Orlando zone.
The Grizzlies fell behind, 1-0, 12:50 into the first period after a shot was tipped in after a faceoff in their own zone.
Utah took its first lead of the night on Mangan’s first goal of the evening and his first with Utah after being acquired in a trade last week. The score came 6:42 into the third period, but Orlando countered after a funny bounce in its own zone led the team up ice in transition 40 seconds later.
The Grizzlies drew the penalty in the final two minutes of overtime as Vallorani was taken down going hard to the net. After a timeout by Utah head coach Tim Branham and a blast from Mathieu Aubin that was turned away, Mangan buried the score as Utah held the puck in. Aubin and MacQueen were credited with the game-winning assists.
Each team skated shorthanded two skaters after a brawl ensued at 18:13 of the first period, and Danick Paquette and Teigan Zahn were given game misconducts for the Grizzlies.
The series in Orlando continues Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m.
