PROVO — The Utah County Health Department's Senior Grandparents and Senior Companions programs are looking for active seniors to volunteer in the community.

The Senior Companions program helps the lives of adults who need extra assistance to live independently in their own homes or communities. They serve frail, older adults, adults with disabilities, those with terminal illnesses, and offer respite for caregivers.

The Foster Grandparents program assists children in schools, day care facilities, crisis nurseries and other places where they tutor and mentor children and individuals with special needs.

Men and women who are at least 55 years old and can volunteer 15 to 40 hours per week are needed. Volunteers are trained and oriented in the program and introduced to companions. Some volunteers who meet the eligibility guidelines may qualify for a small stipend.

Guidelines for eligibility can be found at www.UtahCountyHealth.org/seniors, while questions and appointments can be made by calling 801-851-7767.
