OREM - The Utah Valley University men's golf team winds its fall season to a close this week when it plays its final tournament for nearly four months at the Bill Cullum Invitational in Simi Valley, Calif.
Live scoring for all three rounds of the tournament are available through Golfstat.
The Wolverines make their return to the Invitational after a four-year absence, having last played at the Cal State Northridge-hosted tournament in the fall of 2009. UVU finished 17th that week with now sophomore Noah Cook leading the Wolverines with a tie for 41st on the individual leaderboard.
Contested at the 6,819 yard, par 72 Wood Ranch Golf Club, the Invitational will feature a field of 20 teams competing over 54 holes. Each squad will play 36 holes on Monday and a final-round 18 on Tuesday. Headlining the field are 24th ranked and 2011 tournament champion Arizona State. Defending champs San Diego will also return to Simi Valley for the 2013 edition.
Fellow WAC members Bakersfield and Seattle U join Utah Valley at the Invitational as do Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Gonzaga, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Sacramento State, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Utah State, Weber State and host Northridge.
"This is probably the deepest field we will see this year," UVU head coach Chris Curran said. "It gives us a chance to see how we stack up against some of the better teams in the West and we'd like to be able to finish the fall on a positive note."Comment on this story
Eriksen leads UVU in scoring on the season, averaging 71.17 strokes per 18 holes. He has also finished in the top-10 in three of the Wolverines' four tournaments, including a second-place finish at the season-opening Battle of the Tetons. Eccles is second in scoring average at 72.75, while Cook is coming off the best finish of his career, having placed third at the Utah Invitational two weeks ago. A break of nearly four months follows this week's Invitational, as Utah Valley steps away from competitive play for the winter months. The Wolverines return to action Feb. 10 for the Pat Hicks Invitational in St. George, Utah.
