USU golf: Seokwon Jeon records best-ever tournament finish at Air Force hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah State’s Seokwon Jeon shot a final round 4-under 68 on Monday to record his best-ever tournament finish, tying for fourth place with a 5-under 211 at the U.S. Air Force Academy hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational held on the Blue Course at Eisenhower Golf Club.

Utah State tied for ninth place in the 16-team field with a 21-over 885 after shooting an 8-over 296 during its first round, followed by a 7-over 295 in the second round and a 6-over 294 in its final round.

Air Force won the team championship with a 15-under 849 (278-285-286), while the Falcons Kyle Westmoreland won medalist honors after rounds of 67, 68 and 69 for a 12-under 204.

Jeon, a sophomore from Salt Lake City, began the tournament with a 2-under 70 before carding a 1-over 73 during his second 18 holes. During his final round on Monday, Jeon carded a 4-under 68 to record his best-ever tournament finish. That 4-under 68 on Monday was tied for the low round of the day and tied for the second-lowest round of the tournament.

Other Aggies to compete in the tournament include junior Grahm Schmaltz (Kalispell, Mont.) who tied for 37th place with a 5-over 221 (77-74-70). Senior Tanner Higham (Shelley, Idaho) tied for 56th with a 10-over 226 (71-74-81). Freshman Eli Rogers (Hamilton, Mont.) tied for 70th at 13-over 229 (78-74-77), and sophomore Brennan Coburn (Layton, Utah) finished in 85th place at 23-over 239 (81-79-79).

Utah State returns to action Monday, Sept. 23, when it travels to Boise, Idaho, to compete in the Dash Thomas Memorial.
