In “Return of the Mystic Gray,” author Steve Westover continues the adventure of five intrepid teens who thought they had escaped the mysteries of Crater Lake. Not only do Ethan and Jordan have fantastic special abilities, but Brady and Allie have also noticed changes in what they can do. And each gift/curse is definitely related to their last encounter with the evil Chief Llao.
Ethan is desperate to help Jordan find a way to stop the visions she has been having since they returned from Crater Lake. Mom and Dad think the problems will pass with time, but it seems that every night the trances get worse, and now Jordan has started to roam away from home in her nightly adventures. And to make matters worse, Ethan has begun to develop some special powers of his own: powers he really doesn’t understand or know how to use.Comment on this story
Hoping to find answers to the source of their powers and to recover their lost friend Jacob, the team embarks on a mission that takes them back to Crater Lake and the influence of the evil Llao. But they also find that Chief Skell is doing all he can to defeat Llao and will offer some help in their quest — and hope it will be enought.
Westover’s characters are interesting and well developed, so the story, while fantasy, has an air of reality about it. This book is the second in a series of three the author plans to write. There is no offensive language in the story, and violence is minor and non-graphic. The author is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lives with his family in Missouri.
