OREM, Utah — Following the recent completion of the 2012-13 school year, the Western Wrestling Conference announced its All-Academic Team and Coaches' Honor Roll for the past season. Utah Valley University finished third in the conference by landing 13 of its grapplers on the two teams.

UVU's Chase Cuthbertson (3.51 GPA), Avery Garner (3.42), Monte Schmalhaus (3.30) and Josh Wilson (3.61) each made the All-Academic Team, while Kyle Cuthbertson (3.29), Adam Fager (3.15), Derek Malan (3.05), Sam Mecham (3.73), Josh Metivier (3.35), Bracken Nipko (3.63), Tucker Ray (3.36), Glenn Terrano (3.11) and Derek Thomas (3.23) landed a spot on the Coaches' Honor Roll.

UVU, North Dakota State and Wyoming tied to lead all conference squads with four grapplers apiece on the All-Academic Team.

NDSU, SDSU, UVU and Wyoming were also recognized for their academics by the National Wrestling Coaches Association a couple weeks ago as the Bison had the 11th best team GPA in the nation with a 3.13, the Jackrabbits had the 13th best at 3.12, the Wolverines had the 16th best at 3.09 and Wyoming came in at 25th with a 3.03. Individually, AFA's Dylan Hyder and Jesse Stafford, NDSU's Evan Knutson and Trent Sprenkle, UVU's Garner, Schmalhaus and Wilson, and Wyoming's Alfonso Hernandez were all named to the NWCA All-Academic Team.
