SALT LAKE CITY — Police are looking for answers, suspects and possible injuries after shots were fired near the Salt Lake City Rescue Mission on Thursday.
Several shots were fired in an argument between two men about 2 p.m. near 300 South and 500 West, Salt Lake City police detective Dennis McGowan said.
One man in the argument pulled out a handgun and fired as the second man retreated, McGowan said. Police were working to determine whether the second man shot back.
The man who fled jumped into the passenger side of a full-size white camper, driven by another man who assisted in his escape, McGowan said.
Police were combing the area Thursday in search of shell casings and witnesses. As of 4:30 p.m., police hadn't encountered any victims. Hospitals have been alerted to be on the lookout for people coming in with gunshot wounds, McGowan said.
Officers had been unable to locate either of the men involved in the dispute and were working to put together descriptions of the two to release to the public, McGowan said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Salt Lake City police at 801-799-3000.
