Region 8

OREM — Orem’s girls are expected to compete for 4A state championship next week, and nothing changed after its performance at the Region 8 championships on Thursday. The Tigers more than doubled up second-place Maple en route to the team title.

Orem won six events, but depth in numerous events was once again the catalyst to Orem’s success. Summer Harper was the lone multi-event winner for Orem as she won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

Provo’s Nicole Laws had a very strong meet winning the 100 and 300 hurdles, as well as clearing 5’07 in the high jump. It’s tied for the third-best jump in Utah this season.

Timpview’s Lauren Baxter posted a sizzling time of 12.10 in the 100 meters, the second-best mark in Utah this year.

On the boys side, Mountain View narrowly edge Maple Mountain 120-116 to claim the region championship. Kevin Augustin won the 400 meters for the Bruins, while teammate Jadon Pace won the long jump.

Timpanogos Jacob Heslington cruised to three individual titles winning the 800, 1,600 and 3,200. He didn’t push the pace too much in either race, which means he should be fresh next week to try and make a run at three 4A individual titles.
