USU track: Aggies tally 12 top-six marks Friday during day one of Boise State's All-Idaho Cup
Utah State's men's and women's track and field teams placed 12 athletes in the top six of their respective events Friday during day one of the Boise State hosted All-Idaho Cup at the Dona Larsen Park in Boise, Idaho.
Sophomore Nic Bowens, junior Bryce Hall and freshman Briton Page led the way for USU with second-place finishes in the men's 200m, discus throw and 1,500m races, respectively. Bowens clocked a time of 21.27, while Hall threw the discus 49.14m (161-03) and Page crossed the finish line with a time of 3:55.47.
On the women's side, junior Kylie Hirschi was the top placer as she finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.72. Sophomore Laycee Elliott crossed the finish line right behind Hirschi in fourth place with a time of 1:02.55. In the throwing events, junior Keeley Eldredge threw a personal-best 42.76m (140-03) to claim fourth place in the discus, and fellow junior Kaylee Hartshorn tabbed fifth-place honors with a mark of 40.71m (133-07) in the javelin. Sophomore Brittany Bushman rounded out the top-six placers for the Aggie women with a sixth-place performance in the 1,500m (4:43.84).
Other top-six finishers for the USU men included sophomore Eric Shellhorn, who placed third in the 1,500m with a personal-best time of 3:56.24. Freshman Kevin Allen and sophomore Michael Cardinal placed third and fourth in the discus with tosses of 46.68m (153-02) and 46.47m (152-05), respectively. Sophomore Dan Mosman garnered sixth-place accolades after running a time of 54.81 in the 400m hurdles.
Saturday's portion of the meet will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's pole vault and will end with the men's 4x400m relay at 4:10 p.m.
The Aggies will continue the 2013 outdoor season as they travel to Sacramento State for the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge on Thursday-Saturday, April 11-13. Utah State will host its lone home meet of the year, the Mark Faldmo Invitational, on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20, at Ralph Maughan Track Stadium in Logan, Utah.
