High school track: Fremont girls, Weber boys earn county bragging rights

OREM — Bragging rights about the best high school track teams in Weber County belong to Fremont’s girls and Weber’s boys after the City Country Track Meet on Wednesday and Thursday.

Weber’s boys swept the relays and got strong performances from Jesse Krey, Ryan Liston, Mitch Mordaunt and Jaxon Porter en route to a dominant victory at Ogden High School. The Warriors racked up 166.75 points, followed by Bonneville in second with 117.7 and Ogden in third with 90.5.

Fremont’s girls tallied 173 points to claim the team title, with Weber finishing second with 144 points and Ogden in third with 111 points.

Ogden senior Jordan Cross had arguably the best performance at the meet as he won the 800, the 1,600 and 3,200 meters over the two-day meet. His time of 9:21.00 in the 3,200 meters is the second best time in Utah this year.

There were two other multi-event winners on the boys side, as Weber’s Jesse Krey won the 100 and 200 meters and Fremont’s Adam Knighton won the discus and javelin.

Two other boys turned in top 10 performances in Utah this season. Weber’s Mitch Mordaunt won the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.69 while Bonneville’s Wilson Atagi won the shot put with a throw of 48’01.

Fremont’s girls had three athletes register top 10 performances en route to the team title as Tawnie Moore won the 100 hurdles, Kayla Ivins won the long jump and Whitney Fowers won the javelin. Ivins also won the 100 meters.

Weber’s Johnni Arbon also recorded a top 10 performance as she won the discus with a throw of 116’04
