UVU baseball: Wolverines face Utah on Tuesday

OREM, Utah — After taking two of three at Saint Mary’s over the weekend, Utah Valley University makes the short bus ride to Salt Lake City on Tuesday to face the University of Utah at 6 p.m. at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

Junior right-hander Devin Nelson (1-1, 3.55) will start for UVU with Utah countering with senior right-hander and Southern Utah transfer Chase Rezac (0-2, 6.14).

The Wolverines (9-11) won the first and final games of the three-game series in Moraga, California, winning 9-6 in 10 innings on Friday and 6-3 on Sunday. Saint Mary’s won Saturday’s contest 3-0. UVU dropped two at Texas Tech earlier in the week.

Utah (8-9) was swept in its first Pac 12 series of the season to Cal over the weekend in Salt Lake City. The Utes own a 22-18 series record against UVU in 40 games all-time between the programs.

Utah, which will make the return trip to Orem on April 16, is the third of the three Pac 12 teams Utah Valley will face in 2013. The Wolverines are 1-2 so far against Oregon State (0-1) and Arizona (1-1).

Utah Valley will travel to Cal State Northridge this weekend for a four-game series against the Matadors. CSUN and UVU will open play Friday before a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. The Wolverines will have all of next week off before playing at BYU and opening Great West Conference play at NJIT.
