SALT LAKE CITY — A resolution warning Utahns that soft-core or "gateway" pornography is detrimental to brain development in children passed the state Senate on Wednesday.
SJR15 "recognizes the strong negative impact of gateway pornography on brain development in children, and urges parents and concerned citizens to consider ways to mitigate its effects," the resolution states.
Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross, said exposure to images on billboards and in other media is harmful to children whose brains are still developing.
Sen. Allen Christensen, R-North Ogden, said when he was in Australia, he saw signs warning Aborigines of the dangers of pornography.
"One of these days, this whole country will recognize it and do something about it," he said.
