Utah Jazz: Paul Millsap game-time decision; Kyle Korver a Jazzman again?
Scott G Winterton, Deseret News
SALT LAKE CITY — The only player still around from Kyle Korver's playing days in Utah might not get to go against his old teammate tonight when the Jazz host the Atlanta Hawks.
Paul Millsap did not participate in this morning's shootaround because of his sprained left ankle. The power forward, who missed Tuesday's practice, still isn't sure if he'll be able to go in this 7 p.m. contest at EnergySolutions Arena.
"I'm still a little sore," Millsap said. "It was real sore yesterday, but today it's a lot better."
The durable Millsap has played in all 57 games this season.
"It's going to be a game-time decision," he said. "I'll see if I can get out there and move around, but if not I don't want to be out there and hurt the team."
Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin does not allow himself to be interviewed at home shootarounds, so he couldn't address lineup possibilities. But it's likely Derrick Favors would be the starting power forward if Millsap can't go.
At practice Tuesday, Corbin said he was going to stick with the same starters that went Monday, meaning Earl Watson is expected to be in the first five for the second game in a row. He replaced Jamaal Tinsley in the starting lineup in Monday's 110-107 overtime loss.
More short shots from shootaround:
— As for Korver, the former Jazz shooting guard was thrilled to be back in the state where he played for 2½ years from 2007-10 after being traded from Philadelphia for Gordan Giricek.
"I always love coming back to Utah for a lot of reasons. I still have a lot of friends here, a lot of good memories," the 31-year-old said. "It's a fun arena to play in. It's always good to come back in Utah."
Korver, a free agent this summer, even dropped hints that he wouldn't mind returning in a Jazz uniform some day.
Asked about his impending free agency, he looked into a TV camera and said, "I am a free agent this summer — free agent this summer."
Korver, traded to Atlanta from Chicago last summer, smiled.
"I mean, yeah. I would definitely listen to Utah if they came asking," the 10-year NBA veteran said. "I have a lot of respect for the organization and the Miller family, and it was just a great place to live life and play basketball."
Added Korver: "I loved waking up and seeing the mountains every day. It's just a good lifestyle here in Utah."
— Ex-Jazz point guard Devin Harris hit a half-court shot at the end of the Hawks' shootaround. He joked that it was a birthday present to himself. Harris is celebrating his 30th birthday in the city he called home for just over a year from 2011-12.
— Korver on Jazz shooting guard Gordon Hayward:
"He's got a really high ceiling, for sure. Coming in, people probably labeled him as a shooter because he's white. He's (got) a lot of game. He really does. He can put the ball on the floor. He defends well. Solid all-around player. I think one of the last things for him to develop is actually his shot, and he's shooting the ball really well right now. He's a really tough guy to guard. We've got to pay attention to him tonight, for sure."
— Korver on being married and having a baby since leaving Utah:
"I'm a little older (32 on March 17). It's good, though. Life is definitely a lot different than when I was here living the bachelor life with my brother (Klay). Life's a lot different now, but it's good. It's a welcome change. It's hard to be on these road trips now. We've got an 11-day road trip and you're away from your family and you feel like you're leaving your wife to take care of the kid by herself. But these are all welcome changes for me. Something I've looked forward to for a long time.
— Speaking of changes, Korver was asked if he helps his wife with diaper duty:
"I like changing the diapers. I actually ask to change the diapers. She's not taking formula yet, though, so diapers aren't that big of a deal right now. We'll see in a month or two if we're still changing diapers."
