The first basketball state tournament of the year gets underway this week with the 1A girls, and thanks to another year of surprising results at the Region 20 tournament, some of the best games are also the first games. Region 21 champion Rich meets Region 20 regular-season champion Panguitch in the first round Wednesday at the Sevier Valley Center at 2:30 p.m.
Panguitch was upset in the semifinals of the Region 20 tournament last weekend and qualified for the state tournament as a No. 3 seed. Rich had to face last year’s Region 20 regular season champion as well when Bryce Valley was upset in the Region 20 tournament.
