High school girls basketball: 1A girls basketball state tournament capsules

The first basketball state tournament of the year gets underway this week with the 1A girls, and thanks to another year of surprising results at the Region 20 tournament, some of the best games are also the first games. Region 21 champion Rich meets Region 20 regular-season champion Panguitch in the first round Wednesday at the Sevier Valley Center at 2:30 p.m.

The first basketball state tournament of the year gets underway this week with the 1A girls, and thanks to another year of surprising results at the Region 20 tournament, some of the best games are also the first games. Region 21 champion Rich meets Region 20 regular-season champion Panguitch in the first round Wednesday at the Sevier Valley Center at 2:30 p.m.

Panguitch was upset in the semifinals of the Region 20 tournament last weekend and qualified for the state tournament as a No. 3 seed. Rich had to face last year’s Region 20 regular season champion as well when Bryce Valley was upset in the Region 20 tournament.

These are all the teams that qualified for this years tournament

1. Duchesne Eagles (11-10)

2. Escalante Moquis (7-13)

3. Green River Pirates (14-7)

4. Intermountain Christian Lions (7-12)

5. Layton Christian Eagles (11-7)

6. Legacy Prep Lions (2-13)

7. Manila Mustangs (18-3)

8. Milford Tigers (16-7)

9. Monument Valley Cougars (16-4)

10. Monticello Buckaroos (11-10)

11. Panguitch Bobcats (15-6)

12. Piute Thunderbirds (17-5)

13. Rich Rebels (18-1)

14. St. Joseph Jayhawks (18-0)

15. Tintic Miners (7-14)

16. Wayne Badgers (10-11)

17. Wendover Wildcats (11-9)
