USU track: Aggies tab four top-three finishes on day one of Boise State's Jacksons/New Balance Invitational on Friday
The Utah State men's and women's track and field teams tabbed four top-three finishes as part of nine top-six performances Friday at the Boise State hosted Jacksons/New Balance Invitational at the Jackson Indoor Track Facility in Nampa, Idaho.
Sophomore Cree Phillips Taylor performed well for the USU women with a third-place finish in the pentathlon with 3,255 points, while sophomore Melanie Heslop and junior Keeley Eldredge placed second and third in the women's weight throw with tosses of 16.59m (54-05.25) and 16.43m (53-11.00), respectively. For Heslop, the mark is a personal-best, as well as ranking her eighth in school history.
Junior Silas Pimentel was the top placer for the USU men on the night as he clocked a time of 21.63 in the men's 200m, which was good enough for second place. Junior Kyle McKenna ran in his first race of the season as he placed fourth in the men's 3,000m with a personal-best time of 8:30.21, while fellow Aggie junior Bryce Hall finished in fifth-place in the weight throw with a toss of 16.99m (55-09.00).
"We had some good performances today. It is still early in the season and I haven't looked at all the results yet but we did well," USU head coach Gregg Gensel said. "I know Silas Pimentel ran really well in the 200m and our high jumpers did some good things."
Other top-six placers for the Utah State men were freshman Skyler Duke and junior Xavier Williford who tied for fourth place in the high jump with a mark of 1.95m (96-04.75), while senior Jon Goble tied for sixth place in the long jump with with a leap of 6.69m (21-11.50).
Saturday's action will kick off at 9 a.m. (MT) with the final three events in the men's heptathlon, and the meet will conclude with the women's and men's 4x400m relays at 4:10 and 4:25 p.m., respectively.
