Utah Jazz instant analysis: Jazz fall completely flat in home loss to Golden State

Utah Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin gave his team the past two days off. Perhaps the holidays caught up with the team, as the Jazz looked as flat as they have this entire season, falling at home to the Golden State Warriors 94-83.

In a disappointing effort, the Jazz were outscored by five or more points during each of the first three quarters. Entering the fourth quarter, Golden State held a comfortable 75-58 lead. The bench unit had a nice spell toward the end of the game, but the hole was much too deep to overcome.

Starting Lineups: Slow starts have plagued Utah this first third of the season, with Wednesday not being an exception. The starting lineups set the tone for the entire game, with Golden State’s starters dominating their counterparts from the get-go.

Golden State’s Stephen Curry displayed an all-around game, shooting his way to 23 points, while collecting eight rebounds and doling out seven assists. His backcourt mate, Klay Thompson, was solid with 15 points and three steals. Forward David Lee tallied an easy 18 points and nine caroms.

Meanwhile, Utah’s opening five struggled. Al Jefferson (18 points and 10 rebounds) and Paul Millsap (14 points and seven boards) had decent outings, but their efforts did not spread. Marvin Williams shot just 1 of 6 for two points in 19 minutes. Jamaal Tinsley was held scoreless while dishing out just four assists (three turnovers). And Randy Foye‘s shot was errant, just 3-of-10 shooting overall and a mere 2 of 8 from 3-point range.

All in all, Golden State’s starters outscored Utah’s 65-42.

This and That:

• After being the catalysts for the recent win over the Orlando Magic, the point guard tandem of Tinsley and Earl Watson combined to produce seven assists and seven turnovers. Neither scored.

• Golden State’s Andris Biedrins, fielding a 2.9 rebounds per game average, was very active and impactful, nabbing 12 rebounds in just 19 minutes.

• Despite some consistently good play, Utah small forward DeMarre Carroll has been absent from Corbin’s rotation. He’s only registered nine minutes the past two games.

• Alec Burks had a career-high eight rebounds
