Summary

BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall still isn't naming his starting quarterback for Thursday's Poinsettia Bowl against San Diego State. However, he hinted that both James Lark and Riley Nelson could play against the Aztecs.

More Coverage
  • Was this BYU's best defense ever?

While strapping on his helmet and getting ready to leave, Mendenhall seemed bemused, if not annoyed, by the number of people snapping photos of him.

"If I don't come back, one of you can call the plays and see what it's like," Mendenhall joked with reporters as he rode away. "If we don't play good defense, I'll do the writing."

HELIX ALUMS: Helix High is the home of a bevy of famous athletes, including San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, former USC star Reggie Bush and former UCLA basketball star Bill Walton.

Former BYU football players Leon White, Casey Tiamalu and Todd Watkins also played for Helix.

KAVEINGA ALL-STAR GAME BOUND: BYU senior linebacker Uona Kaveinga will play in the 2013 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Jan. 19 in Carson, Calif.

Kaveinga, a USC transfer, recorded 42 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, two pass breakups, one interception and one fumble recovery this season.

"If you go independent and want to be a national caliber team, you can't have the constant mumbo-jumbo that comes from Bronco's sound bites. It's obvious as to why they are struggling. Just look at most of the SEC More..
